I'm testing the Robo Claw 2x25 before I hook them up to my NPC motors for my Bot. I'm testing with a 9v batter, 2 9v DC motors from Radio Shack; Spektrum Receiver and Spektrum transmitter-DX6i.

I followed the instructions in the pdf.
I have the following connections:
Left motor - negative to M2A, positive to M2B
Right motor - positive to M1B, negative to M1A

Dip switch on Robo Claw 2x25 - 1 set high, rest are low

Spektrum Receiver ELEV going to S1(on Robo Claw 2x25)
Spektrum Receiver ALE going to S2 (on Robo Claw 2x25)
I also viewing the proper connections for black, red and white wire for connections to S1 and S2.

When I turn power on I get a green status light and my receiver is solid orange. I can press the joystick(DX6i) on the right and the motors respond but not properly.
I would like the joystick on the right of the DX61 to be up for forward, down for backwards, right for right turn and left for left turn.

This is what I'm getting:
When I push joystick up one motor (right) turns
When I push joystick down one motor (left) turns
When I push joystick left both motors turn
When I puch joystick right both motors turn

Can someone help please?
I reverse motor connections but did not get what I think I should get. Am I missing something? All help is needed. Thanks, in advance.

Check that you don't have any mixing setup on your RC Radio. Also run the same test but reverse the rc lines going to the roboclaw and see if the opposite happens(eg the other motor runs by itself when you push the joystick up/down. Also do you have a 2x25(green PCB) or a 2x30 RoboClaw(2x30). We started shipping 2x30 roboclaws about 5 months ago.

I have the red one. Mixing is not on, the only dip switch in the on position is the #1. I did try tank mode #1 and #4 on. It moved both motors forward and both motors reverse properly, but when I move the joy stick to the right both motors move, to the left both motors move.
Now when I switch the RC inputs like you indicated, up moves one motor, down move the other motor, left move the same motor as up, right move the same motor as up also.

Any more ideas?

Thanks for the input

So after swapping the rc cables now only one motor moves at a Time? If the Roboclaw is causing the problem you should see exactly the opposite problem from the firts. This sounds liek its different?

Try different radio channels(throttle and elevator for example) and let me know what it does. If the problem goes away there may be a problem with your radio(eg its trying to mix when you say mixing is off. Just to be clear when I was talking about mixing I was talking about the radios mxiing setup, not the mixing mode on the RoboClaw.

One more thing, the 25amp red PCB roboclaws were the very first released. We've had several firmware updates since then. You can send it in for an update at no charge and if we can't figure out the problem you are having now we can test it here when we are doing the update. We have Spectrum DX6i Radio.

Yes, that is correct (swapping).
I did switching channels, problem is that when I have the throttle channel connected the motor runs. I can't have that for my size bot, it will break my legs if i'm close to it when i apply power. Ok sorry about the mixing up the mixing...lol

I'm sure the receiver i have works. When i hook that same receiver up to my RDFR36E Speed Controller it works fine (There are no dips on this receiver)
This is what I'll do. My action items:
-I have two more Spektrum receivers (already binded) I will try.
-I will also swap around the channels as well.

Thanks for all you help because I'm at a loss.

Ok, I tested the other two receivers (Spektrum AR600-X; Spektrum AR6200; original receiver is Spektrum BR6000) and I get the same results.
I used all three controllers on the RoboClaw.

When I swap the ALE to ELE and vice-versa, I get the opposite results.
When I used all the receivers on the Vantec RDFR36E Speed Controller, they work fine.

When I switched to tank mode (dip 5 up and dip 1 up), the forward and reverse turn both motors properly, but the left and right each turn both motors as well.

I also tried the motors (9v DC Radio Shack) on the Vantec RDFR36E Speed Controller (which I done early on) and the motors respond properly).

I must be missing something. But I combed through the pdf.

Thanks, any help is very much appreciated.

What I ment about the mixing wasn't saying your radio was broken, just setup wrong. Thats why I wanted you to use channels that are never mixed in the radio(eg throttle is never mixed with anything as far as I know).

I'm not sure if we are just not communicating properly. :)

When switch 4 is ON it is in mixing mode(eg Both motors will move forward/backwarsds when you move the stick on one channel, and both motors will move opposite of each other when you move the stick on another channel(its mixed so it's not exactly that but it's close).

When switch 4 is off you are in tank mode(one channel controls one motor and the other channel controls the other motor). This is why I thought you may have mixing setup on the Radio(not mixing mode on the roboclaw) because when using mixing on a radio one control(eg the elevator axis of one of the sticks) can control 2 channels at the same time. This is why you could have one stick direction(left/right) control one channel(running just one motor), but have another stick direction(up/down) control 2 channels(causing both motors to run) when in tank mode on the roboclaw. If you had mixing on the radio setup and mixing mode on the roboclaw setup you could have even weirder interactions.

I think the fastest turn around will be to send it in and we'll take a look at it(since we have the same radio to test with). We'll replace it if it's a hardware problem or update it if it's a software problem.

Just curious.

Do you have a Futaba 7c 2.4 GHz TX with R617FS RX?
Have you tested it with the 2x5 RoboClaw?

No Sir. I have the Spektrum DX6i with the following receivers:
-Spektrum AR600-X
-Spektrum AR6200
-Spektrum BR6000

This is my first time using the RoboClaw. My RoboClaw is "Rev C".
I have a Sabertooth 2x25 coming hopefully Saturday or Monday. I'll see if that one is giving me the same grief as the RoboClaw.
As I mentioned before, I have the Vantech RDFR36E Speed Controller....sweet! But very expensive, Great for large robots and/or large applications. That was plug and play....no dip switches.

How is the Futaba?

I just got it,
(Xmas, understanding wife),

And so far all I've done is link it up (two receivers!) and test out a few servos. I also bought a PPM encoder board so that I can easily interface the receiver to an Arduino. Very small board and receiver!

After seeing your post, I realized I could run the receiver into the little RoboClaw that I have, and run R/C! Will probably implement to allow switching between autonomous and R/C.

Nathan, do you have this Futaba R/C?

Us poor folk have to stick with the lower cost Spectrum models. :) No Futabas for me. :(

LoL yes, Spektrum and I thought they were expensive.
Btw. I received the Sabertooth 2x25 Saturday. I hook it up with the same test as the RoboClaw and it worked fine..(forward, reverse, left and right). I shipped out my RoboClaw and patiently awaiting the results.

While I wait. I have a few other questions about Spektrum xmit/reciever if any of you gurus can answer. Again I'm new to this so forgive if my questions are elementary or too basic.

Why is it when I hook up to the "Rudo" on the receiver and when I hit the Rudo switch on the Xmiter nothing happens? Is there a special set for that button?
And how do I assign or use the "Aux 1" on the receiver. There seems to be no switch on the Xmiter that works with that?

Thanks ( in advance).

I just figured out the "Aux 1". But I'm still have not figured out the "Rudo" Switch.

Maybe rudo is for specific modes? The programming might enable it, or even plane vs. heli.

I haven't mastered my TX either!

You might also check out a PPM module:

I managed to get it to work without using the "Rudo" switch. I was able to get it to work with the throttle. So now I have my switch controls from my xmiter to my bot.
