What version is your roboclaw. The current firmware is version 1.3. If it is older than that we have an update, but you must send it in to have done(the CPLD has to be reprogrammed). No charge. Just ship it in with a note saying you need the update. But check the version first. We onlt shipped a handful with the old version.

Also the RoboClaw datasheets document all the commands available on the 1.3 firmware.

cant find any deceleration settings in the doc.. e.g.for smooth stops ) is there a firmware update planned with deceleration features or are there already any hidden deceleration features to use combined with distance operations?

thx

Accel and Deccel are the same thing. The robo claw will decel when the new speed is lower than the current speed, and accel when the new speed is higher than the current speed.

If you set a new speed of 0, the distance argument is ignored. The motor will decel at the specified acceleration until it hits 0. This is so you don't have to calculate the exact distance necessary to stop.
