I am converting from a basic stamp 2p to the Basic Atom Pro 28.
The serial communication is not being read by the basic atom pro properly.
It does pick up something when it reads but its comes out garbled. Its acting like what you see when the terminal is set to the incorrect baud rate.
It should be inverted 4800 8 bit no parity.
I have tried using both the hserin commands and the serin commands and they both are doing the same thing.
I have tried using different options like i4800 io4800 but still get garbage.
I can connect it to the old basic stamp and it works like a charm.

You said you tried i4800, have you tried n4800? Sometimes different processors have a different idea of what is inverted or not.

You can manually create your own baudmode value instead of using the predefined ones. It's possible(though unlikely) the default i4800 is incorrectly calculated. I say doubtful because the same algorithm that calculates all the other values is used to caluclate that one and we've not had any problems with them.

Sometimes it might help to have a little additional information, like how you have the Garmin connected to the BAP28. Are you going through an RS232 connector which would imply the data is coming back in RS232 level signals. Or is it connected to some other data pins. My assumption is that you have it connected to P14/P15 as you mentioned HSERIAL. This would either imply that your Garmin is returning the data in TTL level signals. If it is instead outputting it in RS232 level signals, you would need to have something like a Max232 chip to convert to TTL... If it is TTL what voltage is it?

Also it might help to see what code you are trying to read it with.
