I am running ATOM-Pro IDE 08.0.1.7 in admin mode and it doesn't show any com ports in the Tools/Preference/Com Ports drop down box. I am using Win7 and I am trying to connect to a device over a USB2Serial cable. I think the drivers installed properly for that, but I can't test it, because there isn't any com ports.

Anyone have any tips for what I might be doing wrong?

The chip I have is a BASIC Atom Pro 28.

When I try to program the chip it says: "Error connecting to ATOM the handle is invalid"

---
EDIT
I tried downloading the latest version of the IDE Basic Micro Studio and it isn't able to auto detect the device and under the "Terminal 4" window, it doesn't seem to have a populated COM drop down box.

So is only the Terminal 4 window lacking COM ports in the select box? What about the others?
Go to this earlier post about what seems to be your problem also:

If nothing else, it will let you jump to the FTDI page with their generic drivers.
Happy Holidays!

1. If there are no comports showing in any version of our software then the USB2Serial drivers did not install correctly. You can confirm this by opening the Device Manager(right click My Computer/Computer, click properties, then click the Device Manager button(on XP its under the hardware tab).

In the device manager go to Ports and see what is listed. Most likely there is a BasicMicro USB Serial port but it will have an error(yellow bang) or there will be no comports. If nothing is showing, unplug the USB2Serial, wait a few seconds and then plug it back in. If the Device manager refreshes it's screen then the device is being detected. If it still doesn't show up under Ports there may be some other problem with your windows install or with the adapter. If it does show up but has a yellow bag(or some other error indication) right click it and click properties and tell us what the error message says.

2. I highly recommend you uninstall 8.0 and reinstall Studio. We can not produce any bug fixes for old IDEs so if this does turn out to be a bug in our software we couldn't fix it if you are using the old IDE.
