Hello, babz. :) Which step were you in when things failed?
By the way, step 5 is not correct about one thing:
Quote:
Step 5.
Click on "Find Processor". This will locate the COM port that the Bot Board is connected to, and automatically set the appropriate COM port and processor to default.

After finding the processor and the COM port it is on in "Preferences", as of this date, the USER must set the processor and COM port back in the main page.

Hello Kejj,
Thank you for the response!

I could allocate the controller with IDE as on step 5.
However, i get fail message when i click 'program' as on step 7. The message claims that i have to connect the IDE and the controller, and when i click 'connect' on the 'Debugger' i get message that "I cannot find the file specified"

thnx in advance

Hi Babz,

It would help to have some additional information here. Things like:
What type of serial port do you have? Is it real serial port or are you using a USB to serial adapter. If the adapter, which one? Many of these have problems. Lots of threads up on Lynxmotion on this: for example http://www.lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4704

The sticky post: http://www.lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=6286 gives an idea of the types of information that would help us help you.

OK, since it says it can't find a file, this likely isn't a hardware problem.
Which operating system are you using? you should remove the Studio program and reinstall it.
Good luck.

I was first using my window7, 64-bit laptop and Prolific USB to Serial comm adapter on Com5. I could find the prossesor on the com5, but i got error while i connect to the controller, i then unistalled and reinstalled studio program and usb to Rs232 program. But it became worse i couldnt even find the prossesor on the com ports.

Then i decided to use my desktop (window xp proff with Pack 3) with serial to serial (ACP\PNP0501) on com1 connected but again I couldnt find the controller on the comm-port, i thereafter used the prolific usb to serial adapter and result was the same. I did some unistallation and reinstallation BUT unfortunatelly i couldnt ger any better

Im now confused, because i am supposed to show the functioning robot on friday (22.10).
Can anyone please tell me specific settings required to be done on exactly these two cases?

Thanks

I have a USB to serial adapter (BAFO) which uses the prolific chipset. I had problems with it and then connected it through a powered external USB hub and it worked great. More people have had better luck using FTDI based adapters such as the one Lynxmotion sells.

There are several threads up that give suggestions on changing the reset hold time that you may want to look at and try.

Windows treats comports as files. So when it says file in the error message it means the comport.

I don't see anywhere if you are using a powered USB hub or not. If you are using a Desktop PC and the USB to Serial adapter is directly connected to the PC then it's the same as being connected to a powered hub. However, if you are using a laptop, that is not necessarily the case. If you are using a laptop, get a powered USB hub (eg it has a power brick attached to it) and try it again. I've had several models of prolific USB to serial adapters and each came with different drivers. The earlier drivers never worked. The most recent, which are also included in Windows 7, should have auto installed. These work well for me.

Since you are using a BotBoard I would suggest going to the Lynxmotion forums and see if they have any more suggestions specific to the botboard.

I am now happy to say that my proplem with connection is solved :D.
I had to use a usb-hub with en external power.

i used the same prolific U232-P9 usb-serial adapter, window 7 64-bit, and the hub i mentioned above. The result is perfect.

Thanks all for the help and your concern :)
