Hi i have just got my AtomPro 24 microcontroller and am trying to put my first program on it. I first off tried using a usb to serial converter with windows 7 but all the while Studio said it "could not find processor". Then i dug out my old sony vaio which has xp installed and a 9 pin serial output, because i heard there can be problems with usb to serial converters and windows 7.

I have attached pins 2, 3 ,4, 5 of the serial cable to the SOUT, SIN, ATN, VSS of my microcontroller. And powered my microcontroller (i am lighting an LED so i know that works) but the whole time studio says it cant find my microcontroller and if i select the part and COM it just tells me that a "BasicMicroPRO must be connected to program".

COM ports are showing up in a list in studio. I am a complete beginner and any help would be really really appreciated.

Simon

I have never breadboarded a Atom Pro, so I may not be much help. I use them but normally on a board such as the Lynxmotion Bot Board 2. Often in these cases it would help to see your setup.

Things to check is to make sure you have the right wires from the DB9 connected to the right pins on the BAP. Also have you used this serial port in awhile and know that it works? You might try connecting the SIN/SOUT pins to each other and connect with a terminal and try seeing if the characters get back to you...

Also what power are you connecting to the VCC pin? Do you have it coming from some 5v regulated power supply?

Good Luck
Kurt

First, get the data sheet for the BAP24 and check the instructions for connecting to a PC port.
Then, open the reference manual from Studio's menu and find the early section that tells how to use Studio to find which processor is connected and to which port. Then set the selections on the main Studio page and have at it!
Failing that, set up the serial wiring from the PC to the breadboard. Then with the BAP24 out of the circuit, wire the TxD to the RxD. Use a terminal program like HyperTerminal, which is built into Windows. Use this to "exercise" the PC's serial port. This will tell you which COM that port is, and whether it works properly for the Baud rate and other settings you plan to use.

It would help to have a small diagram of what your wiring looks like.

Ken is correct. But you can use the terminal windows in Studio instead of hyperterm since you may not have hyperterm(win7 doesn't include it anymore).

If the hardware loop back works then you need to look at how you are wiring the module to the serial port or possible how you are powering the module. Like Ken said, a wiring diagram would be helpful.
