I am workin on a nano 18 to communicate via serial to an LCD when I hooked up the LCD I noticed characters being generated. So tracking this down I hooked up a scope. To my surprise there is a pulse being generated even though the Nano 18 had no code written to it.

This pulse is on every pin of the development board.

Even though its a low amplitude its a regular frequency.

Any idea where its being generated from and is there a workaround. The ground and VCC is stable so the source of this pulse is a mystery but its also interfering with the serial communications.

All processors are tested before shipping them. The test code sends a pulse to every pin aat regular intervals so we can see the I/Os are working(by driving LEDs). Once you reprogram the chip it will no longer have the test code on it.
