Hi,

I see in the latest version of the manual there is a 28X and a 40X Nano running at 20MHz. Does anyone know if these are available and what the cost is? I am assuming the 20 MHZ resonator on the 28X connects to physical pins 9 and 10. Therefore 2 of the I/Os are not available, any confirmation of this?

They are listed on their website with the prices. http://www.basicmicro.com/Micros_c_59.html

Thanks, It looks like the 28X is available, I might just have to order some to check them out.

The Nano##X parts are just renamed Atom Interpreter ICs. They decided to consolidate their PIC parts to a single line. If you have the old data sheets, you're good to go. They are in the new reference manual, but not properly documented. Even the pinouts are wrong, the Nano diagrams were just copy-and-pasted for these. Basically, they are the same chips, just that the X parts use a 20 MHz crystal or resonator, which means you lose two I/O pins.
If you have old designs that use these, they are still drop ins.
Later.

Thanks, it sounds like the manual could use some updating.

Also on the website it states "The Basic ATOM Nano runs up to 2x faster on average than competing products at 16Mhz! ". Do you know how this was measured?

The manual is still in beta so there will definitely be some typos/mistakes in it. We are working to squash them as quickly as we can.

The speed of the Nano is being compared to PicAxe and Basic Stamp. The Nano (at 8mhz) runs at 2.5x slower than an Atom/NanoX(20mhz). The Atom/NanoX at 20mhz runs at up to 33000 basic instructions per second. So the Nano runs at 13200 basic instructions per second. If you look at the PICAxe/BasicStamp benchmarks you'll see we've given ourselves a pretty good margin on the 2x comparison.

The measuement was done using a pulsing signal program to calculate the time between instructions. This is the maximum speed you will see. If you need something with a lot more umph then the AtomPro is probably a better choice. It averages over 100k basic instructions per second and peaks on some commands to over 500k.
