I know that I emailed about this earlier, but I have one older Atom28 that used to build OK, but if I try to build with it, it appears to hang studio out to dry. That is I have to kill studio if I try Program/Debug or Program if I choose Atom/Auto...

I tried to upload a picture of the Atom, but uploads are not working... The Atom looks like it has an R painted on it sort-of between the regulator and the resonator as shown in the picture on the data sheet... Either that or the etch got strange there...

I have tried changing the reset time but it did not help.

Hi, Kurt. What does the part number on top of the microprocessor say? If 16F876, the module is a Rev B, most likely. If it says 16F886, it is a Rev D. If it is a 'D', life gets interesting. Some of these were shipped with 'bad' bootloader code. Programming them was a crapshoot, at best. To my knowledge, the latest Studio should recognize any version, if the bootloader is right. Try changing the selector from "Auto" to BasicATOM 28 (if a B version) or BasicATOM 28 RevD (If Rev D). If not sure which version, try both. If all this fails, get ahold of BMicro Support, or Sales, and send it in. They'll probably replace it outright, no questions asked.

Take care.

Hi Ken,

Thanks, I know that it is not a rev-d. I believe I received this chip from Lynxmotion a little over 3 years ago. I hada problem with the first one and they sent me a replacement in October of 2006.

To verify I did peel back the sticker on top of the chip and it is a 16F876. For the most part I don't need the Atom. I only pull out the board that has it on it when I try to help others debug stuff... I used it originally to convert the code that ran on a lynxmotion CHR-3 hex to make it work properly on the PRO.

Hi, Kurt. Try it with "BasicAtom28" then in the selector and see what happens.
Later!

Ken, I normally almost always run with the actual chip this case the BasicMicro28 and not auto as I don't like to turn on the boards while I am compiling stuff, until I know it builds...

So Been there, done that :)

Can you try it with the Atom2211 compiler to see if that works?

I will try it later. I know that I could program it with 5.3.1.0, as I reported back to Dale on August 28th. Sort-of cutting and pasting the information from email:

Dale wrote:
No, We see the problem. Its odd I just re-tested 100 plus Atom24 with no issue. But not theres an issue. We'll get it fixed and release a new studio.

Hi Dale, I don’t know if you saw my previous response back to Nathan, but I did install the 5.3.1.0 on another machine and it does properly detect that an Atom 28 is installed. It is the first time I tried on this portable that the OS got screwed and I had to do a clean restore of the machine so lost everything including serial config, so my plug in serial USB adapter is working, but taking 10 minutes to program. Need to go update the latency…

Question is do you need me to ship you this board?

Just a quick update. I did download 2.2.1.1 on another machine and it programmed just fine.

Mea Culpa, it was the Nanos that had bad bootloaders for a while.
To my recollection, Basic Atoms never had this problem.
